Step onto the Mat and Transform Your Wrestling Skills

Wrestling Styles – Folk Style, Freestyle, and Greco-Roman

Begin your wrestling journey as we teach you the three main styles: folk style, freestyle, and Greco-Roman. Each type has its own set of rules and competitions, contributing to your overall development as a well-rounded wrestler. Folk style, commonly practiced in middle schools, high schools, and colleges across the USA, forms the foundation of wrestling knowledge. Freestyle and Greco-Roman are international rule sets that offer unique techniques and strategies to master.

Age/Weight Levels – Tailored Competitions for Every Wrestler

Age and weight play a crucial role in wrestling competitions. Wrestlers are divided by age and weight below the high school level. Both freestyle and Greco-Roman matches are categorized based on age and weight divisions, ensuring fair play and equal opportunities for all athletes. In Texas, high school wrestling is regulated by the Texas UIL, with weight divisions determining the competition brackets.

The Connection Between Wrestling & Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

The benefits of wrestling extend beyond the mat. Many Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners incorporate wrestling techniques into their grappling game, enhancing their takedown skills and positional control. Whether you’re a dedicated wrestler or a BJJ enthusiast looking to improve your ground game, our training will enhance your technique and overall performance.

Your First Class Experience: Warm-Up, Technique, and Live Training

Our classes begin with a warm-up session, followed by technique instruction by our experienced coaches. Expect to learn new techniques that may differ from what you’ve seen before, thanks to our coaches’ international competition experience. Practice and refine these techniques through muscle memory drills, and feel free to ask questions to expand your capabilities. Each class culminates in live training, where you’ll put your skills to the test against fellow wrestlers.

A Supportive Training Environment

At United Martial Arts Katy, we believe that hard training is essential for wrestling success. Our dedicated community of wrestlers provides unwavering support and camaraderie, pushing each other to new heights. Your training partners will become your allies in progress as you navigate the challenges and triumphs of the sport. By the end of each class, you’ll be physically tired but mentally exhilarated, knowing that you’re building your wrestling skills and overall strength, health, and fitness.

KIDS JIU-JITSU

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art designed to work with the principles of leverage and technique instead of brutal force and strength. The main focus of BJJ is on the ground grappling. This is the most important and often the most neglected area of martial arts and MMA. It is a fact that 90% of all fights end up in clinch and eventually on the ground. BJJ gives you the necessary tools to fully protect yourself in the most common type of street confrontation. We always encourage students to walk away from a fight if you can, but we believe the combination of skills we teach gives you the opportunity to defend yourself effectively against an aggressor.

To excel, individuals need to have a strong set of values and a solid character that give them the perseverance to achieve their goals. BJJ in a positive and supportive setting such as that found at United Martial Arts Katy creates an environment that allows them to experience and understand core values like focus, discipline, persistence, cooperation, and respect needed for a child to mature towards a real-life champion. The outcome of continued childhood practice of martial arts goes far beyond the accomplishments on the mats. The discipline and excellence demanded by our instructors often carries over to the child’s behavior at home and at school.

KIDS TAE KWON DO

United Martial Arts Katy’s Tae Kwon Do program specializes in the traditional Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do. Our training incorporates self defense techniques for children 4+up. We have beginner Tae Kwon Do lessons for kids as well as intermediate and advanced classes.

Many families, and Moms and Dads join their kids as they find it is a great way to keep a close relationship and enhance their own health and fitness in an exciting, new way.

We have proudly served the Katy, Houston, Bellaire, Champions and Memorial areas since 1981 with the best in martial arts instruction. Founded on the principles of teaching excellence, personal attention, and tradition, we provide your kids with the most complete and effective methods to reach thier full potential. They will gain Self-confidence, Self-control, Self-discipline, Self-esteem and Self defense. We offer much more than kicking and punching.  We are the best Tae Kwon Do school in the Katy-Houston Texas area.

PRIVATE TRAINING

Can a student learn more and learn faster? Is it beneficial to have one-on-one time with my instructor?
Your progress is a consequence of how hard and how smart you work. Group classes here at United Martial Arts Katy, are the best-proven way to teach Jiu-Jitsu, TKD, etc., since the diversity of training partners creates different challenges and allows students to improve more quickly. However, private classes are definitely an essential complement that no serious student should do without. The individual attention and approach that a 1-hour session with one of our instructors provides leads to significant improvement in a student’s skills. It is highly recommended that all students take at least one private lesson per month to review techniques and address specific challenges in his or her training.

PRIVATE SESSIONS CAN BE SCHEDULED WITH ANY OF OUR INSTRUCTORS FOR THE FOLLOWING CLASSES: Tae Kwon Do, BJJ and Wrestling. Your private classes here at United Martial Arts Katy will be specifically designed to fit your needs and goals. To get started contact the school’s staff and explain that you’d like to take private classes. We’ll set an appointment with an available instructor so he or she can evaluate and build a program for you. There are many package options available.

ADVANCED/MMA

After approximately 4-6 months of participation (depending upon your individual attendance) in the fundamentals classes, what is next on the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu journey?

While the Fundamentals Program focuses on the building blocks and basic principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ( BJJ ), the Advanced Program is built on high-level techniques and drills that start shaping the students game flow through the development of reflexes, speed and reaction time as well as transitions between one technique and another.

After a few months in the United Advanced Program students typically experience a deeper involvement in United’s philosophy, a stronger bond with training partners as well as more discipline and commitment to healthy habits that keep them in good shape.

In Tae Kwon Do we expect students to advance according to age, attentiveness and effort to progress through belt levels. Most students may attend Advanced classes by the time they reach blue belt (approx. 1 yr. 2 mo.) The advanced program strives to add more skills to an already accomplished student. Footwork, evasive and counter-attacking skills are accelerated. Combination kicking, spinning and jumping techniques are added along with additional hand striking techniques.

The Advanced BJJ Program is based on a defined class structure and curriculum that take a broad and open-minded approach, incorporating techniques from different grappling styles like wrestling, judo, sambo, and, of course, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We offer many variations of classes within the ‘Advanced’ Program all of which compliment your game and provide a different stimulating learning environment: Advanced Gi BJJ, No-Gi classes, Competition/Open Mat classes and Private classes.

When practice is more important than your next belt, you have truly become a United Martial Arts Katy student.
